My son have a job with a boat engineer who is a retire powerboat racer. He’s also part of the team that race boats and jet ski and do wakeboard competition. He does mostly small competition where prize money isn’t so big but it adds up with his payment from work as well.
So he does make somewhat more than most high school students make.
The odd thing is, I noticed that he almost never spend, but whenever he open the wallet, he’d spend like crazy.
For example, when he bought his jeep, he end up spend over $2,000 on accessories for jeep. Other time he bought a new wakeboard and end up buying a new wetsuit and a snowboard as well. This weekend, he spent over $2,000 on suit for his prom and is planning on spending even more for the prom date.
Is this type of spending common? What is this sort of spending call?
that is common from my viewpoint the upgrades on his jeep is not to bad i know people who will spend 20k just on upgrades for a car etc. also the suit is pricy but thats what good suits cost..

I am new to boating I dont know a whole lot but im thinking about buying a 1988 16′ Chaparral 162 Bowrider 1992 with 60hp Mariner ss prop he says he using it for sking and has all ski accessories but would that motor be good enough to pull or get up on a wakeboard or ski it is an outboard ofcourse.
If the former owner says he has used it to pull skiers you need to take him at his word. I’ve pulled skiers behind a 16′ boat with a 40HP engine. If you can pull a skier up with the boat then it’s much easier to pull a wake boarder because they’re already afloat when you start pulling. The fact that it is an outboard is a big advantage. You can always upgrade and replace the motor. If you were buying a 1988 boat with an I/O then you’d have to be careful because if anything goes wrong with the engine or outdrive you’d have to repair it on the boat, and a lot of those older engines no longer have parts available.
