Wakeboard tower for my boat?

Posted: July 22nd, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Wakeboard Tower | 2 Comments »

I have a 17 ft key largo with a 90 horse yamaha 2 stroke boat, the boat is an 06′ model. I recently got into wakeboarding and have been doing it constantly, i want to know if it is possible to mount a Wakeboard Tower on it. So can I do it and where would I buy one?

i probably wouldnt put a tower on top of that boat,
1) it only has 90hp, that might not be enough to pull somebody wakeboarding very well,
2) the boat doesnt look very wakeboard tower acceptable, it might fit if it is custom made

maybe want to do more research into it

Can you wakeboard on a boat without a tower?

cause i jsut have normal tow boat and i cant get up with the wakeboard is there soemthing diffrent you do with just a tow boat not a tower?

you can wakeboard on a boat without a tower, the difference is a matter of jump height, a tower pulls you into the air, a boat doesnt give this advantage…. so it is very possible to wakeboard w/o a tower

Is it hard wakeboarding without a wakeboard tower??? (On a boat, of course)?

A Monery 180 Edge, 190hp, No tower.

Not really. You can’t achieve quite the height you would with a tower. But it’s definitely possible. If you’re a beginner, a tower probably would hinder you a bit. And truthfully, for most tricks, the tower isn’t necessary. As long as you attach it to the boat, you’ll be fine to cruise around behind the boat and get a little height off the wake.
Happy wakeboarding!

Wakeboard Tower on aluminum jet boat?

I’m curious if it is at all possible to install a Wakeboard Tower on an aluminum jet boat? It’s probably uncommon for anyone to want this on this type of boat, but I have found it to work quite well for wakeboarding. And I think it would really be better with a tower.

Here is the boat I have (Almost).
http://thunderjet.com/boat-inboard_alexis_classic_21.html#
This is the boat I have, minus the nice tower that goes around the cockpit. I have the boat a few generations before when they didn’t include that tower.

If anyone knows a solution to this, Please let me know!

I find it hard to believe that you’ve had good luck wake boarding behind this jet boat. It doesn’t make any wake. The great part about wake boarding is riding the wake, and your jet boat is so light it just planes on the surface. I also think you’d have problems with a tower because it will make you too top heavy. The boat doesn’t have that much beam, and if you move the center of gravity that much higher with a tower it will only become more unstable. It would pull just fine going straight ahead, but when you turned you’d come close to capsizing the boat if you had a big rider behind it. I don’t think what your calling a tower in the picture is designed for pulling skiers or wake boarders. The shape of the tower is wrong. They’d using different bracing in the stern if it was designed for pulling. I think what your calling a tower is only there as a grab rail to help people keep their balance and not fall out of the boat.

Can I wakeboard without a tower?

With a 190hp (inboard) montery edge 180.

yes, it just makes it more difficult to get up, i used to do it on a bayliner until one of my friends got a mastercraft, and i noticed a dramatic change in the work it takes to get up.

Does riding on wakeboard tower vs ski tow make a big difference?

Such as is is easier to do jumps and tricks since the line is higher or is there no real difference. Some tricks like a raley where you are high of the water, I would imagine it would be easier. Is this the case?

There is no difference really, but if there is i would say the wakeboard one would b easier as it is like designed for tricks

Is a wakeboard tower better for skiing?

Ditto, it does make getting up easier. But if you are talking about slalom skiing, it is not better. You want the rope lower so the wake won’t throw you off balance while performing you cuts. It its trick ski’s you are talking about, yes tower is better cause you will get more hang time off the wake using a tower.

Alternatives to a Wakeboard Tower?

I wakeboard alot! I’m looking to buy a wakeboard tower…but it cost 7,000$ to get one installed. I was wondering if there were any alternatives to a Wakeboard Tower? ( Something that does the same thing, but will fit all boats).

This is the brand that I love the most. I have a tower now but back when the money was funny I used A Skylon. Here is the link- http://www.skylonsports.com/products/boomspoles.php

Can I wakeboard in my boat?

I just bought a new boat it’s a 1982 bayliner 15ft, 85 horsepower…
I want to know if I can wakboard with it and get some decent air and do the 360’s etc.
I do realize that I need a wakboarding tower to get alot of air, which i would be willing to get if my boat will be decent enough. I wanna know this before I go buy a brand new wakeboard. Thankyou guys (easy 10 points)

You will be able to wake board for sure. You will be able to do jumps but for massive air you might need more horses.

boat propellor?

i have a 2005 stingray 185ls and just installed a Wakeboard Tower and i tried to take it out and wakeboard it pulled me up but would not plane out even at full throttle could this be the prop pitch? but when your not pulling anybody it does fine

First I would check if you installed your wakeboard tower in the correct position on your boat.

Second, If you have a prop with a pitch higher than 19, then get one for your boat that will have 19 pitch or less, probably a 17 or 19 is good. Boats with 21 and 23 pitch are "light load" props mainly for cruising and light load applications (non-towing).

Go to your a merc dealer of your choice or Mercury marine’s web site and use their prop selector system.

Third, make sure the trim is all the way down when starting your towing run. I cannot stress the importance of this, otherwise you will have a steep rise in the bow and this will put more stress on the outdrive system. Trim out to level trim when you are planeing and at the right speed for towing. Also, if already planed and the water is smooth, then raise the trim just a "very small" amount above level trim.

Finally, if you continue to have problems planeing, invest in getting a good hydrofoil stablizer installed on your cavitation plate. Stay away from the new no-drill one, I’ve heard its unreliable and often doesn’t stay secured for long.
