most of the edging deals with dropping the lead shoulder, and how much you lean down the line, the speed doesn’t make that much of a difference as your position when you approach the wake

Not quite sure whats going on but sounds like you are edging correctly. Start out slow, let the boat pull you back towards the wake, then start leaning and adding more pressure on your edge creating line tension as well. When you approach the wake dont let off, keep your edge all the way up the wake.
